Five Animations by Codi Suzanne Oliver
Cities are dark places. Anonymous people live in cities. So many people pass by in a big city they can only be described by how they look or how they don’t look. Codi gives only one of them a name only when absolutely necessary. The first impulse of these characters is to judge. Knee-jerk reactions are easy things. Reflection leads each one of them to take a more rage filled approach. Upon their realization of anger they move away. Codi realizes this important part of life. One minute everybody wants to kill each other, the next they are hugging, crying, vomiting in extreme emotional cases. A major goal in anybody’s life is to comfort others. While this never seems clear it is a learned skill.
The moon is far away in Codi’s telescope. Here Codi hangs out with her best friend in the whole wide world. While they are complimented they are annoyed. Few understand the greatness of Codi. Codi exists in another universe, hence all the moon-gazing. Do people visit Codi in this hipper interstellar locale? It is hard to say. Codi sees a zine getting born. Every day a new zine is in born in real life on the internet. Zines make the world a better, more alt place.
In the room is Scorpion, an attractive anthropomorphic creature that is part scorpion and all parts fresh. Death here becomes a romantic thing: Codi lists off the many ways death can happen. Next to each one is a frowny face bullet point. They are called bullet points for a reason in that bullet points kill. Later Codi comforts others disturbed by Scorpion’s death by cloud. Saying ‘YOLO’ during a wake is highly inappropriate. Good thing Codi falls asleep checking Tumblr. Tumblr is the ultimate form of salvation. Tumblr can go through pop culture debris exploding in GIFs, video, text, images, macros, poetry, etc. in a way few other blogs can. When people die they become blogs. This is a dark image. Blogs contain the souls of people if the blogs are loved enough.
Of course like all good literature Codi ends it with some good old fashioned fucking. Fucking is nice. Fucking is more than a verb; it is the name of an Austrian village. YouTube fame is extremely important in the world. People called Codi flighty. Thankfully Codi takes it to the logical extreme by crashing airplanes and putting the videos up on YouTube. Destruction is fun to watch online. Contemporary art is hard to explain to other generations. Either they will get it or they won’t. Descriptions are meaningless. Measuring the usefulness of a person is impossible since everybody has different standards. That’s why the internet exists.
