Ditt Inre - En Värld I Brand 7.5
Ditt Inre makes sleepy pop music. This is the sort of lazy pop one would listen to right before bed. It has a distinctly late-night vibe to it. Perhaps that’s due to the sonic choices, whether it be the slow tempos of the opener or the Washed Out quality ‘Månljus (saknad)’. ‘Månljus (saknad)’ is my favorite track on the entire album as it references chillwave without outright ripping it off. Indeed a great deal of this music owes a great deal to the chillwave genre in terms of its dream-like quality, heavy emphasis on synthesizers, and far away lyrics. The Swedish vocals simply add to the smoky feeling found all over the EP.
‘Utan titel’ comes closest to rock in a traditional sense. A low-slung guitar lingers as piano and synthesizer come in, reminiscent of a long-lost 80s pop hit. It is melancholy; one doesn’t need to know the lyrics to figure that out. ‘En värld i brand’, the title track reminds me of Sebastian Tellier’s work at his most brooding. Much of the EP is just as brooding. Only on ‘Jorden’ is there anything particularly fast. Pulses seem to flow out of the track and it is the closest Ditt gets to a dance track. There’s even a saxophone outro on the track.
I like the use of Swedish. Nordic countries get a bad rep for sounding technical and
unromantic. Ditt proves that is far from the case.
